- How do I log into the Message Center?
After your Spam Filtering & Virus Protection service has been activated, you will
receive an "Activation Message" containing login instructions. You will
also receive email notifications with login instructions when suspicious messages have
been directed to the Message Center. You can go directly to the message
center at
https://login.postini.com/exec/login.
Top
- Is my email filtered when I
send it, or only when I receive it?
Only the incoming email is filtered.
Top
- How do I know my legitimate email is not being
filtered?
Postini uses an advanced filtering technique built on heuristic rules, lists of approved
and blocked senders, and databases of known junk email to maintain the effectiveness of
the rules system. Despite these advanced measures, some good email may get caught since
the concept of junk email is subjective (one person's trash is another person's treasure).
To remedy this, users have the ability to set a lenient-to-aggressive tolerance for
filtering suspicious email; lenient filtering potentially lets more junk email through,
but also minimizes the risk of legitimate email from getting directed to the Message
Center. Conversely, aggressive filtering catches more suspicious email at the risk of diverting normal email to the Message Center. With the right configuration, Postini
can be set so that less than 1% of valid email is falsely identified as suspicious.
Top
- Does Postini read my personal emails?
No. All email processing is done through automated filters. A single message is processed
within milliseconds and in the event a "suspicious" email is discovered, it will
be directed to your private Postini Message Center pending your review.
Top
- How long does email stay in the Message Center?
Email is kept in the Message Center for 14 days after receipt then it is deleted, along
with the contents of the Trash folder.
Top
- What if I never check my Message Center?
Email that is directed to the Message Center is deleted 14 days after receipt. We
recommend that users check the Message Center frequently to ensure personal settings are
appropriate and to check messages. Users may find that some minor adjustments are required to
ensure legitimate email is not falsely identified as junk. It's a good habit to bookmark
the Message Center Log In page and check your message center at least every week.
Top
- What if I receive Spam in my inbox?
If junk email reaches your inbox, simply delete the message or forward it to spam@postini.com. This allows Postini to reference it
in their junk email database. You can also visit the Message Center and add the sender's
address to the "Blocked Senders" list which will prevent that sender from
reaching your inbox again. It may also be useful to increase the sensitivity level or turn
on specific filtering categories.
Top
- What if legitimate email is directed to the Message Center?
It is possible that some legitimate email may be directed to the user's Message Center.
This is due to the subjective nature of email messages that could be considered junk
email. If a significant amount of valid email is being misdirected to the Message Center,
Postini can be used to build a list of approved senders, thereby minimizing the
possibility of detaining a valid email in the future. From the Message
Center, click "deliver" for any legitimate email and Postini will ask if all
messages from this sender should be delivered--that sender is then added to
the "Approved Sender" list. Next time, messages from that sender will not be
detained unless the email contains a virus.
Top
- Will my email from mailing lists be blocked?
Most likely not. Email from mailing lists do not trigger the filters. We recommend though,
that you add the sender to the "Approved Senders" list if it's important that
you do not miss mailing list messages.
Top
- Will this slow down my email service?
No. Emails are scanned in milliseconds causing no delays to the delivery of legitimate
email messages.
Top
- Will email addressed to my domain (yourcompany.com) be
protected?
If CTC Net is hosting your domain, email addressed to your domain can be protected with the Postini filters.
Additional configurations need to be done to make this happen. A one-time
setup charge will apply as well as a monthly fifty-cents per mailbox fee.
Contact our Internet Department. to arrange the setup.
Top
- Do I still need anti-virus software on my computer?
We recommend that you have, and update regularly, virus protection software on your
computer. While 80% of viruses are spread via email messages, you can still
get viruses from other sources. Also, if you choose to "deliver" an email
from the Message Center that is flagged as potentially containing a virus, you are doing
so at your own risk.
Top
- Is my Hotmail, Yahoo or other non-chibardun.net email
protected?
It will not filter or protect your Hotmail, Yahoo,
MSN, AOL or any other email accounts.
